Corporate Social Responsibility
Watan Pro Farm is a private sector company registered within the framework of Afghan business laws and as such will operate within the legal and social framework related to employment terms and conditions, environmental protection, corporate laws of the country. Our core business is improvement of beef and dairy cattle in Afghanistan.
The corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) guidelines are a way in which the Afghan Watan Pro Farm will give consideration to the impact of its operations on the society and affirm their principles and values both in its own internal methods and processes and in its interaction with employees, local community and other actors. The CSR guidelines comprise voluntary enterprise-driven initiatives and also refer to some of the activities that exceed the compliance with the prevailing Afghan law and regulations.
CSR Towards the employees
1.1 occupation, health and safety
The company will provide a safe and clean working environment to safeguard its employees from occupational hazards. The company will ensure that all staff will be issued with safety guidelines and receive training on the importance of and adherence to safety and hygiene procedures at work. For those members of staffs working with dangerous goods extra training and attention will be given on safety issues. Management will oversee the proper use of equipments and supervise staff compliance to safety procedures. Staff members will be trained in the provision of first aid. The company intends to arrange access to appropriate healthcare services for its members of staff.
1.2 Human resource development
It will be a part of company’s strategy to provide opportunities to its permanent members of staffs and agents to continue to develop their knowledge and skills so as to enhance their employability within the company. To this effect the company will provide training support to enhance the performance of its staff. Opportunities will be given to staff members wish to expand their professional development; together with the immediate supervisor it will be reviewd how the company can support the employee in his/her endeavor to develop professionally.
1.3 Salaries
The company will pay its members of staff, a salary that is attractive given the prevailing levels on the Afghan labor market. By paying staff members more than the going market rates, the company want to motivate its members of staff to develop professionally and stay loyal to the interests and development of the company for as long as possible.
1.4 Labour
The company believes in high productivity of employees through freedom of work and will not force any form of compulsory labour. The company encourages formation of farmers and out growers associations for collective bargaining, production and supply. The company believes in free competition of employees irrespective of sex, cast, age and religion. All employees are recognized equally without any discrimination.
1.5 Child labour/forced labour
The company is very strict on employing child labour in its company and will not allow so in its network. The company does not condone child labour or any kind or form of forced labour. As such the company will not employ any person male or female that is considered as a minor according to law or any person who has not accepted a particular job within the company on a voluntary basis. In addition the company does not wish to be commercially affiliated with companies that are known to condone child labour or any kind of forced labour.
1.6 Working times
The company will adhere to the working times as stipulated in the Afghan labour laws. Staff working overtime will be appropriately compensated for the extra time put in.
1.7 Collective right of bargaining
The company accepts that employees have a collective right of bargaining with the management over the terms and conditions of employment.
1.8 Equality
The companies will not tolerate discrimination of people on the basis of their religion, race or gender. In terms of employment the company provides equal opportunity to both male and female candidates.
1.9 Community
Which could include a variety of issues, such as increased sourcing from local suppliers or assisting with the development of local infrastructure and community services, knowing that a business venture is always part of a wider community and should add value also to that community?
2 Products
Which relates to the quality and safety of the products and the production processes; through sourcing strategies, technology choices and product standards the quality, relevance and integrity of the products and production processes can be enhanced to certified standards.
2.1 Supply chain responsibility
Which goes beyond the company’s own operations by considering, and where possible addressing, social and environmental impacts both upstream (suppliers) and downstream (buyers).
2.2 Welfare and animal healthcare
Watanprofarm is very strict on the healthcare and welfare of its animal and wishes the same from its business partners. At least the following 5 needs of the animals should be respected and provided.

Free from physical and physiological discomfort
Free from pain, injury and disease
Free from fear and stress
Free to show natural behavior
2.3 Anti corruption
Watanprofarm believes in fair and transparent business and is entirely against any sort of corruption, extortion, bribery and intimidate donation. In case of any corruption proposal from any parties we will inform the Anti-Corruption Agency of Afghanistan.
